WATERSIDE WORKERS.
TROUBLE AT LYTTELTON. Per Press Association. Christchurch, May 1. When the Petone arrived with coal, from Greymouth,. the waterside workers refused to work her unless advanced threepence for hour. The agents' for the Petono and the Melbourne, which the men refused to work yesterday, offered the men work on the ship*., on contract, and the men arc considering the offer. The Dorset fa&o asrved‘ to load meat for Home, and the men agreed to work her at the rate in vogue as her/ea-rgo came under the head of necessities. At the same time, the Union sent a telegram to Mr Massey asking him, to use his influence to obtain the" same rate of wages.at Lyttelton as another ports.
