REMITS FOR ASSOCIATION. 5 ,A conference of members of the TaraI nnki, Ha worn and Stratford brandies of tlie New Zealand Jersey Breeders’ I Association was field in Stratford on Saturday to frame remits for tlie annual meeting of the Association to be held at Hawora, There were present: Messrs E. Griffiths (chairman), H. B Lepper, C. N. Sampson (Taranaki), W. H. Wren, J. P. J. O’Donnell, J. Nicholson (JBawera), E. J. Kirkwood. P. J. Petersen and J. M. Shutter (Stratford). Mr Lepper moved, and Mr Petersen seconded, That the N.Z. Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association is of the opinion j that it is in the best interests of t lie 'breeders of all live stock that the live 'stock show in Palmerston North be a Royal Show, where only prize winners at other shows may compete, and that the Manawatu A. and P. Association be approached, and if found in favor ol the proposal that the N.Z. Jersey Breeders’ Association immediately approach other breed Associations and the A. and P. Associations, asking their co-operation with a view to bringing the proposal to a successful issue. —Carried. j The Chairman moved, and M.r Sampson seconded, That the- N.Z. Jersoy j Breeders’ Association Council be urged to increase the semi official classes 'to 8 one each for junior and senior,2, 3, 4 and o-year-olds. Mr Sampson said, in his opinion, the Holstein scale was a good one. Mr Sampson moved, That the age limit of the junior, class bo up to 2 ‘years, and the senior class between 2 years and 2 years and 6 months. The I motion was seconded by Mr Petersen, j The Chairman said if they adopted . the motion, the Holstein people might amend their conditions and adopt the Jersey conditions, j The motion was carried. | The Chairman moved, That the Council be directed Jo have Jcisev matters and interests suitably and thoroughly written up in the Association’s official organ, fcjio New Zealand Farmer. : The Chidi hmn, in moving ' the tion; said the people' in his 'district thought that the best way to popular-ise-the Jersey was'to have it welt -id-j jvertised. Mr Lepper hi.seconding the morion, said they should have the Jersey bqestjeel up. He said the Government in the !records, placed every breed before the I Jersey. | Mr Kirkwood said a good deal of cbe I local breeders thought that Jersey 'matters should be advertised in the j Dairyman as well as the Farmer. Some ;farmers did not take the official organ, j The motion was carried. [ Mr Kirkwood moved, That the f.einofficial test be improved. He said ax, 1 the present time the pasture fed pedigree cattle in Taranaki were not to he. !excelled anywhere in the world. Tmpreseut test was for 365 days in the year, but no farmer milked nis cows [for such a period. He suggested that • the time be altered from twelve mo: tbs ’toiabout nine months or 300 days. ‘said a test of only half the herd was I very unsatisfactory and would not Con-' vince the public. Continuing, be isaid the great difficulty was tli.it the [weights were not taken correuiy. Instead of the farmer weighing his milk for 29 days and an official testing on the last day, and being averaged foi 1 30 days, he proposed that the official test be made up for four consecutive occasions and lie averaged for fiiceen [days. He , thought they could probably got all the pedigree Jerseys tested.—Seconded by Air Lepper. i Air Petersen said he believed in a test for ten months, j The motion was lost, j Mr Kirkwood proposed that the Council again circularise the members of the Association to discontinue the breeding and selling of grade bulls, Seconded by the Chairman and carried. | ATr Petersen moved, and Mr Shotter seconded, That the Council be urged to subsidise each branch at the rate of 10s per member up to twelve members.—Lost.
Mi- Kirkwood moved, and Mi Lcpper seconded That the judges list be <iincelled and the Council to appoint <ew judges tor a period of two years.—Carried. The Chairman moved. That ‘he Council he urged to inquire into tin* use of the Tattoo ear mark, and if suitable to enforce its use.—Seconded by Mr Kirkwood and carried. Mr Petersen moved That the Council he asked to fix a penalty for the non-compliance of the recommendation of branding annual,: before registration. Seconded by the Chairman and earrii i. Mr Petersen moved, That a pmio '>■ 25 guineas he offered, to the supplied by the Association, for the first cow to receive a semi-official certificate of record with a production of 850? s of butter-fat or more.—Seconded by the Chairman and carried.
