GERMAN-AMERICAN SITUATION. [Unitbd PiiJißa A«*<»oiAaiow. i London, April 27. The German-American situation is uncertain. The German public is affronted at the • directness and outspokenness revealed by the full text of the regarding it as hostile and bellicose. The Vienna press agrees that the situation is very serious, but asserts I that Austria will not renounce the 'practice of torpedoing vesels in the Mediterranean. The Austrian Government is in constant touch with Berlm regarding the answer, and a breach •between America and Germany would be immediately followed 'by Austria, and probably by Turkey and Bulgaria. AN IDEA OF KULTURI PROTEST AGAINST THE PRACTICE OF NAILING. (Received 10.45 a.m.) Amsterdam, April 27. Professor Pagaurek, a well-known figure in Stuttgart, protests against nailing images in Germany, such as Hindenburg's in Berlin, Tirpita's -m Wilhelmshaven, Midler's of the Em'den at Weddigon, and his ship at Kiel. The doors of town halls and churches have been hammered with memorial nails in countless places in the shape of huge iron crosses. Hindenburg's statue in Berlin contains four tons of iron. Payaurek protests against the disfigurement of the publlic gardens in the Square.
