• FACTORY LABOR AND THE WAR
THE MATTER OF EXEMPTIONS.
A deputation consisting of the following members of the Dairy InJustij waited on the Hon. James Allen, Minister of Defence, in the., secretary’s office at the Show Grounds yesterday afternoon: —Messrs' R. Dingle. (President Dairy Employers’ Union and Stratford Dairy C 0.),, A. Morton (National Dairy' Association, KseCn’tvc Employers’ Union, Mangorei Go.U J. B, Murdock (Joll Co.), W. Richards (lin'diff Co.), J. Knowles (Tafiki), T. H. pienn (secretary Dairy. Employers’ Union; 'Xgaire, Towgarth, 1 TOamrri., and Makahu Co’s.). The deputation put before the Minister the position in regard to the experts employed in the various factories, and asked if anything had been done for their exemption. Mr Allen said they were quite prepared to exempt all the experts required. If the deputationists helped the Government, it would help. them. There were men employed m the arteries who were not experts, and w ho C °Mr Murdock said they only wanted to keep the experts. Mr Murdock said they had twelve branches, and out of their forty-nine experts they could not spare twelve. Mr Dingle said the men were not all in one factory, but in the branches. A discussion ensued on the position following a man who was gian ct an eemption leaving the factory and he * employed elsewhere. .
