GERMAN PRESS OPINION: ‘ • i 1 .. IN SUPPORT OF THE SUBMARINE. j t!3THf OH>V ul3 V$ 3H w j (Received 10.35 a.mj.) * : ■ v -Js T ewy (April 24. Messages, fi'o&"Berlin state that the majority of papers comment at length on the American Note. Some consider there is a probability of Germany attempting to meet President Wilson’s demands. The Gamittag Zeitnng declares that the Note “did not electrify Germany as reported that it would, but it electrified America. Germany had been willing to go to thg utmost limits to meet the United States ever since the American Government sought to restrict and even make ineffective ,our weapon of necessity.' We, as has been proved a thousand times to every . thinking man, have so far .guarded the interests of Neutrals that no clash of opinion has arisen among us. To the last man the German people are, united, and will uo.t let the submarine be wrenched from our hand. It is the weapon 1 we need, because it has shown itself j effective. We will use it according to principles to justify humanity always invoked in the American Notes, and will use it in future, because it is our right, and because the humane considers ;tion of our existence as a State and the future of our wives and children compel its use : therefore, we await with calmness and determination what President Wilson again has to say.”

London, April 23 Commenting upon President Wilson’s Note, the Kreuz Zeitung anticipates a rupture, and hopes the development will secure for Germany unrestricted freedom in its submarine warfare.
