FOOTBALL.
THE TOKO CLUB. The annual general meeting of the Toko Football Club was held m the Coronation Hall, Toko, on Thursday ■evening, 6th hist. Mr W. H. V<ere, presided, aid there was a moderate number of members present. The balance-sheet showed the receipts to be £l7 6s lltl, and the expenditure £lO Us Bd, leaving a credit balance of £6 16s 3d. The report showed the number or piid-no members for the season was * lift v-tli roe, against eighty-three for the 1 previous season. Matches played, | * live, won two, drawn two, lost one; I points scored thirty-t wo; against i twenty-three. Since the last annual i meeting, four much esteemed and 'highly respected members had passed away, viz: Geo. Cleary, Manly Marfell, I and Terry Foley had most gallantly [ given their lives for King and Coun- ! try on world-famed Gallipoli, and Trevor Marfell had been accidentally killed near his farm in the Whanga. district. The following memoers had enlisted during the year; Captain J. B. Hiue, M.P. (Patron), Mr Chas. Bayly (Vice-president) who went to England and obtained a commission in the Exeter Yomenary, Corporal Cliff Mather (Clul) Captain), Messrs Geo. Corbett, Alex Reid, Frank Marfell, [ Harry Evans, Frank St. George, J. E. Grainger, .Arthur Inglis, Lon Roberts, Sergt. CJias. Fincham, and Joe Cas- • key. Messrs Alex. Ferguson, Geo. ' j Morrison, and Gordon Mather, have been passed as medically fit, and are « now waiting their turn to be called up, 'thus fetching up the total of enlisted clul) members for the two seasons to twenty-six. I The Chairman commented on the satisfactory position, and congratulated the team on their success as winners of the Master’s shield tor Die 1915 season. ) The report and balance-sheet were then adopted. j The chairman .moved that a resolution of sympathy be recorded in the minutes as a mark of respect to the memory of the deceased members, this being carried in silence,» mothers 1 standing. ! V’ ~ j, ■ j A discussion then ensued whether it was advisable to keep the Club alive I owing to so many of the active mem--1 hers having enlisted. A donation of £5 of the Club’s surplus was voted to the local branch of the Wounded Soldiers Fund, and a deficit of £2 13s 6d over the last Soldiers’ Farewell Social was most
generously settled with a cheque for the full amount from the Chairman, t
During the evening, Mr Were, in a few well-chosen remarks, presented a wristlet natch to Private Arthur fnglis, who was home on leave, the honored guest suitably responding. A hearty vote of thanks to the officers, members of committees, and the Hon. Sec. for their services during the year was passed unanimously, and a similar vote to the chair terminated the meeting.
