LOCAL AND GENERAL.
A Hniakama settler has rather a curious orchard experience this year. He gathered a full crop of Irish Peach-apples from one tree-and then it came into bloom again and bore an excellent second crop a nice sample of which was shown to a representative of the Post torday.. "fe .V A large circle of friends in Stratford, particularly amongst the older residents of the district, will learn with much regret of the death of two wellknown figures in Stratford in the earlier days. We refer to Mr Neil McQueen, who died at Henderson, Auckland, on April 14, in his 67th year, and to his brother, Mr Duncan McQueen, who died at Manngatipiri, at the age of 61. Most singularlyMie death of the brothers occurred on the same date and almost, at the same hour. They were tlie'.first settlers in the Skinner,. Road district, taking up land there. About twenty years ago, Mr Neil McQueen went north to reside in -and subsequently 'at Auckland, and about ten yeare ago, Mr Duncan McQueen left j Stratioril for northern Wairoa. Both brothers were held in very high esteem by.all who 1 ‘knew 1 them.-.' Mts D; McQueen, who survives her husband, is a daughter of Mrs M. Bonner, senr., of 'tips town. • ■’
