RECRUITING IN BRITAIN.
(United Press Association.! London,, April 17
The Daily Chronicle states that Cabinet on Friday deferred decision of the question of general compulsion until they had consulted Lord Kitchener and General Robertson, and will ho reconsidering the matter on Monday. It is believed that the needs of the army for many months will he realised without compulsion of the fit and unattested married men. A civil matter to'be considered is the urgent need of labor for the completion of merchant vessels, and the accelerating of the building of lighter warships.
THE FINANCIAL MARKET.
(Received 8.55 a.m.) Paris, April 17
Lc Martin states that the rate of exchange in London and Pans had recently risen twenty-nine francs to a pound re-acting unfavorably on French trade and on the Government, which was purchasing largely \in Britain. M. Hibot (Minister of Finance) conferred with Mr McKenna with a view to arranging to improve the situation.
