, It is prpposed to establish a scholarship as a memorial to the late Mr J. C. Macky, of Auckland, who lost his life in the Lusitania disaster.

S» The death occurred on Sunday of Mr V ' ' Albert (“Tim”) Bishop, of New Plymouth, who had resided nearly all his life in Taranaki. His age was 57.

Mr Ashmead Bartlett, the war correspondent, states that Colonel Malone held the rank of Brigadier-General at the time of his death.

Miss Moon, a promising young Stratford pianist, will supply the music at His Majesty’s Theatre to-night, in the absence of Mr C. Fox, who is’ accompanying the Stratford Christy Minstrels to Toko.

His Excellency the Governor is to perform the opening ceremony in connection with the new Grammar School for hoys at Auckland on April 26. The Minister for Education (Hon. ,T. A. Hanan) and the Director of Education (Dr. Anderson) will also be present.

Mr Geo. J. Shepperd, who has been manager at Hawera for Booth, Macdonald and Co., Ltd., since the branch was opened, and who previously travelled Taranaki for the firm, has been promoted to the control of the Palmerston North branch, and will leave for that town in a few days. Mr fehepperd has always been popular in business and social circles, and also with the farming community. While congratulating him on his preferment (s tates'the Star), many friends will regret to learn of the departure of himself and Mrs Shepperd from this district.
