STRATFORD HOSPITAL BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Stratford Hospital and Charitable Aid Hoard was held on Tuesday morning, when there were present: Messrs .1. McAllister (chairman), .1. Christoffel, J. Smith, R. Walter, K. Mine, R. McK, 1 .Morison, and G. 1). Sole. CORRESPONDENCE. t The Town Clerk wrote stating that since the outbreak of infantile paralysis the Borough Sanitary Inspector had given particular attention to any places I where nuisances were likely to occur. .•As far as business premises were concerned, inspection would he undertaken weekly. The recommendation of the Health Department that a house to house inspection he made refers stated the writer, to the drainage and sanitary plumbing and arose owing to a request by the Council for the services of an officer of the Department.— The members expressed the opinion that the matter was very satisfactory. The secretary of the Hawera Hospital Board wrote stating that an extra amount of sickness had prevailed in the district for some time, and the present Health Officer, Mr Cray, had been taxed to his utmost. The Hawera Board recognised that no proper inspection could go on without giving Mr Gray some temporary assistance, and at the last meeting of the Board it was decided to procure same. .’Whatever expenses were attached hereto the Hawera Board would ask the Stratford Board to pay its share in proportion to the existing arrangement.— The Chairman said in view of the position, it was satisfactory to the Board, as next month Stratford might need the services of the Inspector.—lt was
f decided to approve of the Hawera I Itoard's action. The acting secretary of the Whaugarnomona Medical Association wrote stating that a suitable residence was available for the resident nurse, the house that was lately occupied by the I doctor being vacant and is procurable. !.Tile Association wished to know if the Board would collect the subsidy on the quarterly payment of £22 10s made to it by the Association and pay the whole to the nurse. This would make a salary of £l9B per annum, and after deducting rent would mean £152 10s net.—The matter was held over till next meeting the Inspector-General to be written to in the meantime. The matter of arranging for a nurse for the Association was left to a sub-com-mittee consisting of the Chairman, Messrs Sole Smith and A 1 orison, with power to act. The Inspector-General of Hospitals wrote staging that the money raised for the purpose of providing a nnr.se for Whangaraomona when paid in to the Board, would he subsidised to the extent of 21s in the £.—Received.
The Valuer-General, Wellington, wrote stating that the summary of the rateable capital values of the various contributing districts as at March ill, 1915, was: County 0 f Stratford, £2 - 051,330: County of Whangamomona, Borough of Stratford, £190,840; total, £3,030,281. 11 BP Ol ITS. The Medical Superintendent (Dr. Steven) reported that during the month twenty-two patients were" admitted to the hospital twenty-throb discharged, and there were no deaths ' Fifteen remained in the hospiffd at the end of the month. ' Eleven operations were performed under anaesthetics. There were iio cases in th'e Isolation Ward. 1
The Matron reported that the verandah on tl'e main building required attention. ‘ "The matter was left in too hands of the Visiting Committee. The Health Inspector (Mr A. A report was written to the Stratford County Council re piggeries a lulling on the road. The gardener (Mr C. Corkin) vr pelted that the gardens were in good condition. He asked the Board to purchase a small grindstone. He reported on the work done during the month. —lt was decided to procure a grindstone. The reports wore adopted. ESTIMATES. Accounts amounting to £167 5s Od were passed for payment.
