U i P.'s? ' CASUALTIES. i PROGRESS ANT) HOSPITAL REPORT. : Admitted Hospital. Rifleman H. J. Brodziak, Gunner F. F. Hale-. Trooper T. F. Fletcher. Private F. C. Mitchell. Sergeant W. McPike. Pi'ivate Mulcahy. * Pronounced Out of Danger. Private A. H. Cairns. “SOLDIERS DAY!” That a- humber ,o,f men who am hanging back could be induced to join the colors, if definitely assured that they would receive care and attention, and adequate provision made for their future, when they return wounded and possibly permanently maimed,' is on the face of it a reasonable assumption. Of course there is a small percentage of shirkers who will not go even with such an assurance and would seize on the above suggestion as an excuse for not going, but wo can lie thankful that they are a small minority. New Zealanders as a. whole arc game to a fault, and this is not to be wondered at, seeing that their forbears entered upon an adventure that only daring spirits would undertake, when this country was first colonised. The- provision that should be made for our men, to be adequate, must be entirely outside military pensions made .by the and not given as a charity but as a right. With the building up of the Wounded Soldiers’ Fund a. definite assurance is given that our men will be provided for as .should be, and it behoves everyone to assist the Wounded Soldiers’ Fund in Taranaki, and every individual can do this by attending the great Carnival. Soldiers Day, on Easter Monday, at Stratford, Gentlemen are only asked to pay two shillings, ladies one shilling, and children sixpence, at the gates, and once inside the gates all they have to do is to enjoy themselves.
