FIRE AT A BOARDING-HOUSE. AN INMATE AND HIS TROUSERS. Pes Press amoouiiun. Auckland, April 8. A two-storey boarding'house in Gladstone Street, owned by J. H. White, and occupied by Mrs M. impey, was gutted by fire last night. There were thirteen boarders asleep when the alarm was given, and all of them rushed into tno street in their night attire. George Storey, aged 40, employed as a clerk in the Postal Department, returned for his trousers, when he was overpowered by smoke. A rescurer found him enveloped in flames and badly burned. He was removed to the hospital. His condition is serious, but it is not ■ expected to prove fatal. Insurance—On the house, in the Soufh British £450, on the furniture in the Standard £l5O.
