General Lake reports that the Tigris orps,, under General Gorringe, General iylmer's successor, attacked Um el anah at five o'clock on the morning the sth. Our trenches had heen ished forward by means of saps to thin 100 yards of the enemy's posion; thence leading battalions of the Wh Division rushed the enemy's first ad. second lines in quick succession, id the third line was captured at six clock. Supported by concentrated rtillery • machine gxin fire the 13th intinued their victorious advance, id an hour later drove out the enemy om the fourth and fifth lines. Aeroitne reconnaissances reported that e enemy were strongly'' reinforcing eir Falahiyah and Sannayyat posi>ns respectively., which are 6000 and ,000 yards from the front trenches at nel Hanah. As these positions were ly approachable over open ground, ineral Gorringe deferred further ateks till the evening. Meanwhile, on
right hank the 3rd Division, under |ittßral Carey, captured the enemy's Miches opposite Falmaliiyah. The amy in the afternoon on this bank : ongly counter-attacked with infan- | and cavalry, supported by guns, t we successfully repulsed them and isalidated tile position won. General fringe at eight o'clock in the even- ;, resumed the advance, and carried I Falmahiyah positions. Reports to that the Em el Hanah position entrenched, its left flank ting on the Suvachi marsh, and its at on the river.
