COMMONWEALTH CABLES.
N.S.W. POLITICS. United Press Association. , Sydney April 5. There was a heated scene in the Assembly when Air Estell moved the acceptance of the Legislative Council’s amendments to the Trades Union Bill, providing that the money and property of the unions shall not he applied to the furtherance of political objects by publication in a newspaper other than a non-political trade journal. Several Labor members objected on the ground that they had not been consulted. Mr Holman explained that at a caucus meeting a small attendance approved of Mr Estell’s action. If members were not present it was their own fault, and he announced that if the caucus decision was not accepted Cabinet would forthwith resign. Mr Cochrane declared that he did not care whether the Government resigned. The adoption of the clause meant the abandonment of the principles of Labor. f After other warm speeches an amendment was adopted by 32 to 23. A caucus meeting afterwards smothed matters over by deciding to drop the Bill. (Received 9.10 a.m.) Melbourne, April 6.
