New Zealand

RETURNING FROM WAR. A nominal roll of over three hundred officers and men who are expected to arrive shortly in New Zealand was issued by the Defence Authorities on Friday. All those returning are invalids. The roll includes the following Taranaki men:— Cornwall, John Henry, railway en-gine-cleaner (Robert Henry Cornwall. Manufcahi). Barnard, Frank Allen, draper \H. J. Barnard, Eltham). Heal, Ernest Norman, butcher (MiJohn W. Heal, Tariki). Shirley, Frank' Albert, painter (Mrs E. Shirley, Oaonui). ! 15th REINFORCEMENTS.

DEPARTURE FROM STRATFORD. A large number of residents of Stratford and surrounding district assembled on the railway platform this .morning to bid farewell to the members of the 16th Reinforcements who left for camp by the mail train. The Municipal Band was in attendance and played music appropriate to the occasion. As the train drew away from the platform the band played "Auld Lang Sync," and cheer after cheer rang out from the people congregated on the station. His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. W. Boon), in bidding the men farewell, said Stratford had always been aide to send its quota of recruits, but they had not been satisfied with that, so they had sent extra men. Tt was : more necessary to maintain the quota now than it was previously. The men who had gone before had set a high standard, which, he was sure, would be upheld by those going away at the present time. The speaker, on behalf of the citizens of Stratford, wished the rnenibood-byc and a safe return. In answer to Mr Boon's invitation, three cheers were given for the departing men. The following men left by the train: INFANTRY.
