Owing to the shortage of both French supplies and locally-produced articles, the stocks of brandies ate running low. The price has advanced materially, being, it is stated in some instances, 150 per cent, above pre-war figures. THE CHURCH AND WAR. (Received 8.15 a.m. ) Melbourne, April 1. A letter signed by Arcnbishop. Clarke and the bishops to the demy says that the Clergy should not enlist in the ranks of the Army because they are urgently needed in their parishes to perform the duties to which ;<hey are already pledged. The duty of bringing inspiration and consultation on religion to bear on the life of the people is of supreme importance at | he present time. Regarding Divinity students, without saying that no permission to enlist will be given, the jright to refuse is reserved where they are heeded for the usual service of :' the Church. • • , ,r

It is stated that ninety per cent, of the Turkish subjects, in Australia are christian and pro-En-tente. A STRICTER CENSORSHIP. . (Received 9.25 a.m.) Melbourne,, April 1.
