"SOLDIERS DAY!"

The general committee of the Soldiers Day organisation met last even- | irigi when reports from the following sub-committees were submitted: Ladies, tickets, side-shows, procession, J decorations, advertising, music, and sports'. All committees reported good progress with the work in hand. Convenors of the committees are anxious to get the assistance of further able workers, and would be glad of.offers from citizens. Most of the committees' reports were.fairly lengthy, and from the details submitted, the magnitude of the undertaking was clearly demonstrated. Mr B. J. Peters kindly donated a valuable clock to be dealt with for disposal in the most desirable manner to augment the funds. Mr Abraham also made a donation of three guineas and Mr Albert Hugget gave a three-year-old heifer. Several present stated that a number of townspeople who could not give any active assistance, and in other cases where persons would be away on Soldiers Day, desired to help by making a donation. To deal with this phase of increasing the funds, a committee was set up to receive donations. It was decided to have a guessing competition on the grounds and Mr Hugh Good undertook to get a huge , bullock for the purpose. This animal, which is said to be over seventeen hands in height and rolling fat, is considered on account of its immense size to be a freak. A special pen on a prominent part of the grounds will he erected for its reception. The committee further dealt with general, matters and adjourned after a late sitting.
