ACCUSED AGAIN REMANDED, At the Stratford Magistrate's. Court this .morning, before Messrs C. D. Sole and S. B. Hunter, J.P.'s, David Maxwell, of Toko, on remand, again appeared to answer n charge of wilful exposure. Accused elected to be dealt with summarily, and pleaded not.guilty. Mr Cecil Wright appeared for the accused. ; " : Sergeant Dale said the information was laid under section 41, of the Police Offences Act. On. account of, one of his constables, an important witness, being ordered away on very urgent business, he would ask for an adjournment. Before he had known the constable was leaving, application had been made for the case to Vie heard that day. As a little girl, one, of the principal witnesses, was present, he asked that her evidence be taken, so tliatshe:. : arid; her ,mother could return home -/to , Auckland," where they resided. The girl, aged nine years, gave her evidence in,iv very clear and precise manner. ■ , ■: •. . . ; Some discussion followed as to iwhether the witness, should be conveyed to Toko and mark on the plan, produced by the police, the spots material to the case. Mr Wright said it was very material to his'case that the witness should be conveyed to Toko. He wished to cross-examine ;the witness on arrival back from Toko. . The Court .adjourned at 11 a/m. to allow the presiding Justices an'd the witness to visit Toko. After the' adjournment the witness was cross-examined by Mr Wright; On the application of Sergeant Dale, the case was then adjourned until April 6th,, at-9 a.m. Accused was granted bail in self £IOO, and one surety of £IOO.
