Tom Barker, publisher of the "Direct Action," the organ of the Industrial- Workers of the World, was fined £IOO, in defaut twelve months, for publishing statements prejudicial to recruiting. (Received 9.50 a.m.) Sydney, March 30. j The Legislative Council passed the Liquor Referendum Bill through the committee stages unamended, though several members advocated the Government abandoning the preference voting and making a clear-cut issue between six and nine o'clock closing. THE TASMANIAN VOTE. (Received 9.50 a.m.) Hobart, March 30. It will be some days before the election figures are complete. In the meantime the position is unaltered. The liquor vote fixes the closing of hours permanently not during the duration of the war. EXPORT OF WASTE PAPER PROHIBITED. (Received 9.50 a.m.) Melbourne, March 30. The export of waste paper, without the .written consent of the Minister of Customs, is prohibited.
