ACKLAND SCHOOL PICNIC.

[FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] A gloriou sly-fine day greeted the people at Ackland Road last Thursday on the occasion of the an- ! nual picnic. Among those present .were Mr H. Trimble (chairman of the Taranaki Education Hoard),, Messrs Masters and Mackay (members of tho Bxsard), and Mr Hathaway (chairman Stratford County Council). yjiPuring the; day;* Mr , Trimble prethe prizes, speaking with satisfaction of the highrQhality of the work 1 of the school. j Every child in the ,school received a class prize according to individual i work. j Attendance certificates and prizes !were given to 13 scholars: Elenor Knox, Leslie Oldridge, Malcolm Knox, I Flora Knox, Gertie Lumsden, Douglas Mackay, Rose Oldridge, Winnie j Knox, Mildred Oldridge. Annie j Tocher, Walter Tocker, John Tocker, and Belle Knox—the latter being also presented with a gold medal suitably inscribed, for having completed five years unbroken attendance. | ’Popular prizes, presented by Mrs G. C. Knox, were won by Rose Oldridge and Douglas Mackay. j Writing prizes, presented by Miss Knox, were secured by Belle Knox, Douglas Mackay and William Sutherland. j Gills’ sewing prizes, presented by Mrs Mackay, were won by Elenor Knox, Gertrude Lumsden and Flora Knox (a little girl of six summmers). j Girls’ garden prizes, presented by Mr Abraham, were given to Annie Tocker, Belle Knox. Alice Oldridge, Flora Knox and -Rose Oldridge.

j Boys’ sewing prizes, presented by Mrs Savage, were given to Douglas Mackay, Frank Christensen. Archie Christensen, William Sutherland, and John Knox.

I Boys’ garden prizes, presented also bv Mrs Savage, were given to Douglas Maekay, John Tocker, John Knox, Leslie Oldridge, Archie Christensen and Walter Tocker. A special prize presented by Mr Tocker for youngest gardener was won by George Harris, age six years. The garden and boys’ sewing were judged by Mrs W. Hawkins, who gave every satisfaction. Lunch and afternoon tea -were provided by the ladies of the district, and during the day a sports programme was arranged as follows: ( Girls’ Rare—Alice Oldridge 1, H. Knox 2. Boys’ Race—W. Young Men’s Uace (120yds)—R. Wheller 1, J. McCracken 2. Men’s Race (over -10-years)—J. Oldridge 1, G■ Scott 2. Men’s Chain-Stepping—J. Aldridge 1, \\ . Olliver 2, 1 Ladies’ Chain-Stepping—Mrs Oldridge and Miss .Knox (equal). ' Sheep-Guessing—Miss Ngaere Baylv, Mrs Oldridge, and Miss Tocker (equal).

Cake Weight-guessing—Miss Guppy. Guessing .Number of Peas—Mr Keighley. Ladies’ Nail-driving—. Mrs M. Knox 1, Mrs Windier 2. Men’s Nail-driving—f). Savage- 1, G. Scott 2. Money to the value of about £l Ss, collected by the children for guessing competitions, will be handed over to the Soldiers’ Fund.
