The Corriore Della Sera states that the German failure at Verdun has caused disturbances in Berlin, Dresden and Frankfort, and that machine guns were used in some towns to quell, the crowds.
UGLY RUMORS IN MUNICH. REPORTED ENORMOUS BAVARIAN LOSSES. (Received 9.45 a.m.) • Amsterdam, March 14. Depressing rumors are current in Munich of an enormous Bavarian loss at Verdun. The War Minister, in a speech in the Chamber, said they must not lose confidence owing to the small miscarriages at Verdun where the development would require a long time. HOLLWEG’S FOLLY. FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE SPEAK. ' CALLING THE CHANCELLOR TO ACCOUNT, I (Received 9.45 a.m.) Amsterdam, March 14. The German Foreign Affairs Committee assembles on Wednesday and members are endeavoring to interview Chancellor von Bethmann Holweg. The Chancellor does not attend the committee meetings, thus Prussia is not represented. There have been many protests in the Reichstag and in the press regarding the gagging of public opinion.
Mr Gcofge Bef-hardt,' writing ini the Vossiche' Zeitnrtg, states that the meeting of the committee may be regarded' as A Aign that ’ the' German States, except Prussia, desire to confer with the 'Chancellor and to give Hollweg an opportunity .to dispel rumours which are greatly alarming public' opiphju- It is reported that the Government has taken a decision which is not meeting with the people’s approval. Plain' speaking is necessary to explain to Hollweg where his tactics are leading. It is understood that Berhardt is alluding to the submarine warfare, Germany’s war ambitions, and to the position with America.

MOT LIKELY TO BE CONSIDERED [United Phess Association.l Washington, March 14. * It is authoritatively stated that Colonel House has submitted to President Wilson the following German peace terms: — The return to Germany of her colonies; No indemnities on either side; Polish autonomy; The partition of Montenegro, Serbia, and Albania among Austria, Bulgaria, and Greece; Russian control of Persia; German evacuation) of France and Belgium ; England to be neither the gainer nor the loser, but that Turkey be freed frop British influence. Colonel House reports that Gei - many no longer expects to retain Belgium or to got indemnities, and ,he vopbrted that the Allies are unwilling to consider peace on these terms.
