The Federal Cabinet has received a communication from the Governor of New Caledonia stating that the action of the Sydney wharfies in refusing to handle oil is affecting the mines which are supplying the munitions and metals, and the union have agreed to load the cargo.
EMPLOYMENT FOR SOLDIERS. (Received 9.30 a.m.) Sydney, March 15. The returned soldiers’ employment bureau reports that of 1021 soldiers discharged from the forces, the Bureau secured employment for 583. VILLIERS, THE CORRESPONDENT VERDUN IMPREGNABLE. THE PART OF THE BRITISH FLEET. (Received 9.30 a.m.) Fremantle, March 15. Mr Frederick Villiers, the veteran war correspondent, who i\as the only English corresiMUident to visit erdun, states that ihe defences are impregnable, there being over 70 miles of barbed wire entanglements outside the town. He thinks that the war will last some time. The British Fleet will have to play a more important part to bring Germany to her knees.
