COMMONWEALTH CABLES.
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS. I United Pebbis Absooiation.) Sydney, March 10. The barque Lobo reports sighting a wreck south of Minerva reef on the 16th of January. The hull was mast-* less, but apparently was undamaged. A flagstaff was rigged up, but it was flagless. No castaways were visible. The supposition here is that the wreck is that of the Pacific Cable Board’s schooner Strathcona, which was lost on Minerva reef in June last.
j The Early Closing Bill passed the committee stage, with unimportant amendments. The Labor Council resolved that the question of the cost of living should be referred to the Commodities Commission and that the Com- • mission’s powers he extended, enabling it to fix the cost.
Melbourne, March 10, A regulation has been issued ordering companies to supply lists of enemy shareholders. Owing to the diminution of available shipping in the Commonwealth by sale of vessels and further pending sales, the Federal Executive has approved of a regulation whereunder a vessel owned in or under charter to the Commonwealth, and British vessels arrived or arriving, may not leave for an oversea destination unless licensed. Vessels engaged in the regular trade between Australia and New Zealand and the Pacific Islands are exempt.
