NEW PLYMOUTH SHOW.
THE FIRST DAY. The Autumn Show of the Tnrnnalrt A. and P. Association opened in New Plymouth yesterday, and marked a new era in the history oi the Association. The effort to infuse new .life ' into it has been very successful, thanks mainly to the energy and enthusiasm of the President. Mr J. Connett, while the decision to procure 'grounds of its own is meeting with | widespread approval. The membership of the Association is now approaching I 1000, of which about 800 are financial, ! and the sum of £ISOO has been promisedrin debentures, etc.. for the { equipment of the new grounds which I are situated at "Waiwakaiho.
The general arrangements for .the day were excellent, as usual, thanks to the organising ability of the secretary, 'Mr A. L. Humphries. The day being fine, judging proceeded expeditioils- | ly, and the programme was carried out without undue delay.
Considering the exigencies of the times, the condition of the stock on exhibition was very creditable, although numerically there was room for improvement. ' It was noticeable | that splendid support was accorded tho Association by farmers on the coast. From this end of the Province there were not very many exhibits, but they held their own in the judges' opinion, and several ribbons came tins way. In the pony class under 12 bands, to bo ridden by* a boy or girl under 12 I rears Master Joe Gray's (Midhirst) Dot was first. Mr T. Orr's (Ngaore) Bob was second in the Farmers' Utility class, but scored the rod ribbon
for a spring cartel'. The competitions decided yesterday resulted as follows : | Maiden hunters' competition (gentlemen riders), not less than 12st (Ist £6 2nd £3. 3rd £l)—A. H.
