OPERATIONS ON THE TIGRIS. BRITISH FORCES SLOWLY ADVANCE. United Press Association. Loudon, February 28. The War Office announces that the commander in Mesopotamia reports that General Aylmer , bombarded the enemy on the left bank of the Tigris on the 22nd inst. The enemy was surprised and lost heavily. Our aeroplanes obtained useful information, and we attacked a small punitive -column four miles north of Nasrineh. The enemy fled, suffering severely. Our losses were nil. Genera! Aylmer continued operations next day, in order to secure a forward position on the right hank, his object being to bring a reverse fire upon the enemy’s position at Hannah. On the 26th two British aeroplanes-- .flew up from Basra to General Aylmer. The river is rising and a flood is expected , A second disturbance is.reported between the Turkish troops and tlie population. A Daily News telegram of the 26th states: “We effectively bombarded the enemy’s camp at Hannah.”
