GREATER PROTECTION SOUGHT.

Replying to a deputation from the Master Printers’ Association seeking greater protection for the printing trade, the Minister of Customs said when the tariff was next being revised be would go carefully into the representations, in regard to the importation of printed matter from Australia and be would see that the Customs Department paid special attention to ensuring that the original country of origin should be shown in every case. The Minister also promised to see what could bo done in the way of stamping waybills and theatrical posters, as the deputation suggested, in order to prevent their being brought in without payment of duty. He promised to bring the matter of fostering the papermaking industry under the notice of the Minister of Industries and Commerce.
