YESTERDAY’S COMPETITIONS
The Stratford Volunteer* hue Brigade held two competst’onfj amongst ites own members at Victoria Park yesterday afternoon. A very good atternoon’s sport was witnessed, ’which* goes to show that Captain Grubb keeps his men up to the m*rk. Some veiy good times were registered in me different events, and there was close competition ; indeed, two teams had to run off three times to decide the win-
The results were as follows: — FIVE-MEN EVENT. No. 2 team : Foreman Drake, Firemen W. Burgess, .)• Crofts,. G. King, and J. Crossan —59secs., 1 No. 1 team: Custodian Burgess, Firemen A. Moon, J. Pearce, H. Voyle and F. .Dans—6l 2-osec, 2. No. 3 team : Lieutenant Davey, hnemen E. Broeklehank, A. Drake, W. Payton, and F. Walsh—6.3 2-osecß, 3. Two seconds penalty. ■ »>■ TWO MEN EVENT. In the first run the following times were recorded Custodian Burgess and Fireman A. Moon, 37soe. Lieutenant Davey and Fireman W. Burgess, 39sec; Firemen E. Broeklehank and Pearce, 37sec; Firemen F. Davis and W. Broeklehank, 36 2-6 see (2sec penalty), 38 2-ssec. In the run off 38sec was recorded against Burgess and Moon, while E. Broeklehank and Pearce did it m 3 1 sec. which, with a penalty of Isec , made it ai tie. In the final Brock ebimk aM Pearce won m 37 1-osec the other team being disqualified. Drake and Crofts and Drake and Crossan were blown out, Walsh and \oyle did not finish. Payton and King scratched. The Brigade’s thanks are due to AD Pinhey whose timekeeping gave every satisfaction, and also to Mr Wallace, who acted' as judge.
Captain Grubb has presented throe gold medals for a three-man event, tr he held at an early date, and Mv < Petrie has donated the Brigade a go ; medal for a one-man event.
