SMITH-DORRIEN IN ILL-HEALTH
GENERAL SMUTS COMMANDS.
The High Commissioner reports : - London, February 9 '.8.10 p.m.) General- Smith-Dorrien, owing to illhealth, has relinquished East African 'command, and his place has been taken by General Smuts. ' PROMOTION FOR SMUTS. j London, February 9. I General S. H. Smith-Dorrian has resigned the East African command owing to ill-health. It is officially annauneed that General Smuts was offered the command in November, and was unable to accept it, but the difficulties have been removed and he now succeeds General Smith-Dorrien. -tie has been promoted to LieutenantGeneral.
