The Stratford Evening Post WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE EGMONT SETTLER FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 1916. THE HIGH COMMISSIONER.

In joining with many other English newspapers in congratulating the High Commissioner for New; Zealand on the honor of knighthood recently conferred on him, the Financier remarks with a great deal of truth that there is, perhaps, no greater authority on New Zealand agriculture than Sir Thomas | Mackenzie, and certainly none who knows more about the frozen meat I trade, which has been such a blessing! to the Dominion. His knowledge and (experience in this direction have been taken advantage of by the imperial Government, who appointed him last year a member of the Advisory Com- 1 mittee to the Board of Trade on frozen 1 meat supplies. Since the outbreak ol j war Sir Thomas has devoted much of! his attention, not only in his capacity! of High Commissioner, hut as presi-j dent of the New Zealand War Contin-' gent Association, to looking after the! comforts and reejuiremnts of the sick and wounded New Zealanders in London, and none will hear with greater pleasure of the honor which has boon conferred upon him by the King than the members oi the Expcditionary Force, both at home and at the I rout, notably his son Clutha, who was unfortunately blinded for lilc by shrapnel at the Dardanelles. Sir 'lhomas is a man with a great capacity for business, and knows no working hours. Since his appointment as High Commissioner in London some three and a-haif years ago he has won great popularity, and has rendered line service to New Zealand. !
