SUPREME COURT.
SHEEP BRANDED IN ERROR. Timaru, February 8. After a hearing lasting all day the jury acquitted William Trplady, farmer, of Geraldine, on two charges of sheep-stealing—fourteen from one neighbour, and four from another. Same of the sheep were found with accused's brand on top of the other, but did not hide it The defence was that the sheep strayed and got boxed and were branded in error in a hurry. Late in the day the jury, in acquitting the accused, added a rider that the law should requite all sheep-branding should be done between sunrise and sunset.
