Taranaki Presbytery —? -? ?—?
The Presbytery met on Thursday last at Hawera. The Rev. J. R. Shore occupied the chair, and welcomed Mr j Roseveare on Ins recovery, and Mr Culliford, who is at present supplying Fltliam. Rev. 1), Mclvor, of Wavcrley, was appointed Moderator of the Presbytery for the current year; in his absence Mr Shore to retain the chair. RESIGXA I'lON OF REV. R. WELSH The clerk read a letter from Mr | Welsh, tendering his resignation at the charge ol Opunake. The congregation had been consulted and extinct minutes of concurrence were read. On the motion of Messrs Howes and Patti son, it was agreed to accept the resignation with regret (to take effect 31st March, 1916). Presbytery expressed its appreciation of the brotherliness and helpfulness of Mr Welsh as a member of Presbytery and trusted that lie would soon be settled in a stronger parish. Opunake has its own difficulties on account of its small numerical strength, but the Presbytery is considering a scheme for extending its territory. Mr Hoews, of Manaia, was appointed Moderator during the vacancy. RESIGNATION OF REV. JAR. LOWERY. i I Mr Lowery wrote tendering Ids reI signation of the parish of Eltham on ! account of illness and enclosed certificate from W. E. Williams, M. 8., Auckland, urging need of absolute rest. Mr Shore, Mr Pattison, Mr Lillcy, and Mr Murray spoke with regret and sympathy, and the Presbytery, in accepting the» resignation, was led in ' special prayer by Messrs Pattison and Lillcy, and expressed its profound sympathy with Mr and Mrs Lowery in tho sore trial through which they were passing, and prayed that lie would soon be restored to bis former health. Mr Pattison was appointed interim Moderator of Ellliam during the vacancy, which dates from February 3, 1916.
Mr Patti son was appointed Moderator of Inglewood, Mr Roseveare of W'aitara, and Mr Howes, of Okato. Mr Howes read the circular issued in connection with Evangelist Ci turnings’ mission, setting forth the itinerary.—Received. A provisional scheme of re-arrange-ment of Opunake, Kaponga and El ■ tham parishes was adopted and a deputation (Messrs Patti son, Bridge and Howes), appointed to visit the principal centres and confer with the congregations. The Presbytery balance-sheet was read and adopted. The Presbytery meets again on April sth.
