STRATFORD HOSPITAL.
MONTHLY MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the Stratford Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held this morning, when there were present. Messrs <l. McAllister (chairman). E. Walter, C. D. Sole, and J. Smith.
A letter was received Iromtbe District Health Officer in reference to the sanitary condition of the Stratloid Borough, hie stated that he had delayed replying to the Board’s letter as he had been waiting the return of Inspector Middleton. A house-to-house inspection of the Borough was out of the question. This would take probably three months, and if it were carried out the local authorities in other Boroughs would ask for similar inspections, which would be impossible on account of tlib small inspectorial staff of the Department. Each Borough is responsible for its sanitary conditions, and should he competent to supervise same. The Department is always willing to advise on special cases, and will give the Borough every help in its power. A letter had been written to them to tin's oilect, urging them to take a wider view of their responsibilities under the Public Health Act and Municipal Corporations Act, and to proceed themselves with an examination of the Borough and rigid enforcement of their by-laws and the sanitary provisions of the Public. Health Act and Municipal Corporations Actß eoei ved. A letter was received from the Defence Department stating that Private A. J. Gedge, at present in the Stratford Hospital, had been, by direction of the Medical Superintendent, recommended for treatment at Rotorua. —Received.
The Orphan Home Trust ■ Board, Auckland, wrote stating that an inmate (who was being maintained by the Stratford Board) was now old enough to leave the home, and asking whether the boy should be sent home or have a situation found for birA.— The matter of finding him a situation was left to the Orphan’s Boards.
Dr Steven reported that during the month of .January twenty-four patients were admitted, sixteen disehaiged, and one died. At the end of the month there remained fifteen patients in the institution. ‘‘Teh operations were performed under anaesthetics. There was one patient in the isolation ward.—Adopted.
Inspector Gray reported that a patient suffering from diphtheria was removed to the hospital from the M ilan gamomona County, and the premises were disinfected.—Adopted. The Gardener (Mr C. Oorkin) reported that the garden and grounds were in fair order, and one or two places in the grounds needed attention.
An invitation to inspect its new hospital was received from the Taranaki Hospital Board. —A vote of thanks was passed for the invitation. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Department pT Labour with a view to obtaining a female cook for tbe vacancy at the hospital. Accounts amounting to £238 Bs were passed for payment.
