CONDITION OF POLAND,
AMERICAN- POLES APPEAL TO
BRITAIN.
[United Press -Association,] (Received 1.55-p.m.)
London, Februarv fi
Four million Polish-speaking residents in tbe United States cabled Mr Asquith (British Premier) urging him not to blockade tbe vessel earning provisions and clothing to the stricken districts in Poland, where there s famine and pestilence < ,„_and pointing out that the diplomatic ways of rendei ing them that assistance were too slou, and that the world cannot countenance the extermination of an entire nation in such excruciating agony. Mr Asquith and Sir Edward Grey, in replying, deeply sympathise with the petitioners, but state that the distribution of American relief was iilipossible unless Austro-Germaiiy would prohibit the export of foodstuffs ■ from Poland and guarantee that the native stocks of foodstuffs wou’d mat be used to maintain che occupying armies, fue fact that this is nut done thev state, is evidence that Aiiuri-Germs.uv will never eo- iperate and work in the interests of tiic p.-pu-xtuni of Pcuend.
