NEW ZEALANDERS HONORED. DECORATIONS AT THE HAND OF HIS MAJESTY. TOASTINC "THE HEROES." [United Press Association.] (Received 11.40 a.m.) London, February 3. The King decorated the following New Zealanders*—Corporal Bassett, with the Victoria, Cross; Captain Shera. (Auckland), lAeuts. Turnluill (Wanganui), and Bishop (Clutha), with Military Crosses," ; / The New Zealanders' ■ Hand from Hornchurch escorted the heroes from Buckingham Palace to the Windsor Hotel. Victoria ■ Street, which was thronged, when Sir Thomas Mackenzie gave a luncheon. Lady Hardwick and two hundred New Zealand convalescents were present. Sir Thomas Mackenzie, toasting "The Heroes," said it was amazing that the New Zealand* ers and Australians had not received greater honors for their glorious part in the strenuous and sanguinary fighting at Gallipoli. Those who were on the spot were surprised only one Victoria Cross was awarded fur the New Zealanders' gallantry. Corporal Bassett, responding, said his only regret was that the others of his comrade* were riot present. Sir James Mills and Captain Dawson declared that Sir Thomas Mackenzie had made London a haven of rest for New Zealanders.
