fire and attempted suicide. Per Press Association Woodville, January 29. A cottage on the Napier Road was burnt to the ground last night, and the contents, including some money, were wholly lost. The house was occupied by Mr W. Stevens, an old man of 02. with no family. During the lire he attempted to commit suicide with a blunt knife, on the excuse that he had nothing to live for. He appealed in court this morning, and was remanded to appear at Napier next Saturday.
