A number of men who left New Zealand some time ago allegedly to avoid military service, returned from America by the Maitai yesterday. They stated that they had found the conditions abroad less congenial than they imagined. Some were so hard up that they approached the, British Minister at San Francisco for assistance, but his only offer was a trip to Canada to enable the men to enlist. RETURNED FROM SAMOA. ARRIVAL OF THE TALUNE. *- Peb Press Absooiation. Auckland, January 31. The s.s. Tfllime, which arrived from the Islands last night, brought thirty soldiers of the Snmban Garrison. Three were invalided, thirteen returned to join the 'Reinforcements, and fourteen were time expired men who returned to report for orders.
