Pee Press Association. Auckland, January' 28. The ketch Kereru is still burning, but the fire is well in hand. The hull, which is practically gutted, , will be beaehed this afternoon. A large quantity of the oil cargo was jettisoned and is floating in the harbour, and is not much injured. It is imposprobably is not much injured. It is impossible to estimate the damage yet Later. It appears that a large part of the, oil cargo still in the Kereru will be saved, through the fire brigade's efforts, and the vessel, though badly burned, is nothing like a total loss. SHIPPINC SPACE. PRIME MINISTER'S STATEMENT. • Referring to the shortage of shipping space, the Prime Minister informed, a reporter that it has been suggested, that the Imperial authorities were about to requisition two vessels engaged i" the England and Zealand "trade. He had communicated .with the Board of Trade on the subject, and bad received a communication from London to the effect that one of the ships mentioned would not be interfered with, while the other would not be required to give more than a few weeks to the Imperial ser-vu-f.
