Sweden

UNDESERVED NEUTRALITY. STATEMENT BY THE PREMIER. XUWITID PuiSIS AMBOOIATION.I Stockholm, January 25. A debate on the Budget took,,place in both Houses. Herr Kiksslag, the Liberal leader, declared that the people demanded a policy of unreserved neutrality. Herr Arauting, the Socialist leader, feared that in future Sweden would be unable to maintain a linn neutrality. The Premier urged that it was impossible to doubt that the policy of the Government was sincerely neutral. They were consistently adhering to the principal of co-operation on the common objects of neutrals, especially Denmark and Norway, -and their efforts had largely succeeded. The present grouping of Powers was not a lasting one, and it was possible that any further belligerent would regret tearing up treaties and violating international law for the sake of a doubtful temporary advantage. If Sweden had insisted upon less strict commercial neutrality she might have lessened industrial inconveniences, although these were no more with Sweden than with other neutrals.
