THE AUCKLAND MURDER.
INQUEST ADJOURNED, A FATAL APPOINTMENT. Peb Prebs Association. Auckland, January 24. An inquest concerning the death of Horatio Ramsden, who was murdered on Saturday night ? was opened to-day. the younger brother of the deceased said he last saw him alive at about 6.30 p.m. on Saturday, when he was in his usual health and strength. He said he was going out. Witness asked him where he was going. He replied, "Mind your own business." The coroner decided to adjourn the inquest sine die to enable the police to investigate. Those who were acquainted with Ramsden are at a complete loss to account for his being mixed up wit) anything that would lead to such ;. tragedy. He is described as a very quiet, inoffensive young man. As for the motive of the crime, one can only speculate. A letter from a female acquaintance was found on the body, but it made no mention of an appointment. None of the pockets of deceased's clothing had been disturbed, which suggests that the motive was not robbery. The most persistent theory is that Ramsden was probably in the company of the female, when someone intervened, and that •> struggle which ensued led to the use of the deadly knife. When he left home at 6.30 p.m. on Saturday he told his mother that he was going to meet someone, but did not mention any name.
