I N EASTERN ANTOUA. COLLAPSE OF TURKISH THIRD ARMY. RUSSIANS CLEARING THE WAY IN PERSIA. [United Press Association.] (Received 9 a.m.) London, January 24. The Daily» Chronicle’s Petrograd correspondent says: There are no raildays, sixteen-inch guns and elaborate entrenchments in Eastern Anatolia, hut there is the “snap” of gallant adventure in the fighting in the mountains and valleys of Armenia and Kurdistan. The Turkish third army suffered a picturesque collapse while gathering forces at Melashkort to strike <t blow at the Russian centre. The Russians, however, concentrated more rapidly and struck hard, sending the Turks in pell-mell flight over the snow-clad mountains. The Russians hotly pnrsuem them to their base on camels, hack to the mountain, which is strongly fortified and guards the approach to Erzeronm. The Turks nu the Hanks were also demoralised and panicstricken. It is expected that the Turks will seek reinforcements in Mesopotamia. Meanwhile tfcn Russians under the dashing Georgian General, Barattoff, is ('learning the ground in Persia by seizing the fortified pass at TCeneover, and entering Sultanahad, where he stopped communication by the Dido-
European telegraphs between Perisa and Turkey.
The German Consul fled with a band of irregulars which he organised.

A communique states that captures of prisoners and artillery in the Erzelomn region continue. During the Turkish headlong flight the roads were strewn with th e frozen bodies of 'Turkish soldiers.
Other reports indicate that the whole position in the Middle East has greatly improved. The Russians at Hamadan and Sultanabad are co-operating with the British at Kut-el-Amara and other
Russians from Tabriz have reached Miaudorb, south of Lake Urumiah. Turkey is disappointed at Germany insisting on the Mesopotamia campaign being cleared before the Egyptian' campaign commences.
TORPEDO BOATS AT WORK.
SEVERE ENEMY LOSSES.
(Received 10.40 a.in.) Petrograd, January 24. Russian torpedo boats raided southeastern Anatolia, destroyed forty sailing ships, and bombarded Samtook, Ounie and Patz, destroying the bar bourages, storehouses and barracks. RUSSIAN ADVANCE. TURKISH FLIGHT FROM~ERZEROUM. (Received 10.4 a.m. Petrograd, January 2.4. Our advanced cavalry has reached the defences of Erzeroura. The Turkish flight was headlong and enormous quantities of material has been abandoned. Detachments are scattered and are hiding in the mountains. A MILITARY TRAIN WRECKED. (Received 10.40 a.m.) Petrograd, January 24. A civilian and a volunteer crawled at daylight on the Libauromny railway, cut the,.sentries’ throats and broke up the rails. Disguised in German clothes they signalled the military train which was wrecked and hundreds killed.
