A MYSTERIOUS DEATH.

A shooting fatality occurred at Willowbridge, near Waimate, on Saturday afternoon, when Arthur Henry Woodhead, Government Insurance agent, was shot through the face while handling a gun at Clark's farm. Deceased was by himself when the accident happened, and the body was found by a boy.
DROWNING AT HAWERA.
A fatal drowning accident occurred at Hawera on Sunday by which Ivan Vowless, the eldest son of Mr W. Vowless, foreman at the Hawera, railway station,, lost his Hie. Yowless, in company with his younger brother and three other lads named Jaekfl, Mcßbbbe, and Guilgall, went to the zig-zag beach in the morning tor a picnic. In the afternoon the boys went into a pooj oi water to have a bathe, and while there it was suggested they should have a competion to see who could hold his head under water for the longest period. They all had their turn and came through the experience without mishap, until it came to deceased's turn. Vow'ess kept his head under the water lor some time,, and then on coming out he groaned and 'ell back dead into his brother's arms. Vowless was earned ashore, artificial respiration was resorted to, and the services oi Dr. Thomson were obtained, but without result.
it is stated f nit the deceased had been troubled with a weaic heart for some time. Yowicss was employed at Mr WestwoouV a rut-icy.
