The newspapers publish Mr Ross' account of the Christmas Day fighting at Mersa-Matruh wherein the Sikh’s and the New Zealanders dashingly charged down, across a donga, under the enemy’s fnsilade. Tlie Sikhs’ great courage won the New Zealanders’ admiration. Finally, the enemy were ejected at the bayonet’s point. The New Zalanders’ casualties were seventy. GERMANS REPLACE TURKS AT GALLIPOLI. (Received 8.5 a.m.) Bucharest, January 21. Twenty thousand Germans have replaced the Turks at Gallipoli, who are joining the army destined for the invasion of Egypt.
