TARANAKI WOOL, SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SALES. NEWTON KINC'S REPORT. On Tuesday. 11th .January, 1916, I held my tirst «nle of the year, when I catalogued 196 hales and 200 sacks of (wool, 1860 sheepskins, 400 hides, 630 calfskins, 8 casks, and 32 tins tallow. Com pet i lion was keen throughout, sheepskins advancing £d per lb, hides 'id per lh, and tallow 3d to 6d per cwt.
j Owing to the Government prohibiting the export of all wools to neutral countries, prices were .affected thereby. Best crossbrds declined Id .per lib, lower grades £3 to Jd per ib. Badly seedy lambs were not wanted, and in several cases failed to get a bid. I quote:—
Wool.—Crossbred l3Jd to ltd, logstained 13d, seedy 9*d to 12Jd, lambs 12d to 13}d, seedy u-J-d to 9id. crutchings 7d to Bd, Jocks and pieces Id to B.UI.
In sacks.—Fleece 13d to I.3f;d. seedy 10;fd to lljd, lambs 12d, crutchiugs 6jd to »id, locks and pieces Ijfd to Old, dead 8d to lljd, scoured IHJd. Sheepskins.-—Full woolled llfd, hoggets Hid, lambs 10Jd to lOjJd, pelts 6.}d to 6-Jd. damaged 9i?d to lOd. dead 9d to lOd, country pelts lid to ■ld, dead and damaged lambs 7id. skin .pieces 7id, damp pelts I s 30d to 2s lOd, lambs 4s 3d. salted woolly JOs 6d to 12s, pelts, best 2s 9d to 3s hi, small and neglected Is to 2s 6d. lambs 3s 3d to l s 6d. Tallow.—Best mixed 26s 9d, medium 2.5 s9d to 265. In tin s 18s 6d to 21s 6d.
Hides.—Ox heavy lf>id, light 9-'d to. 10}d. cow heavy B|d to 9|d, medium 9d to 9}d, light 9|d, cut 7|d, farmers' "id to Bd, slippy and cut od. dry 6id to 7-I-d, hulls oid to 7d. Horse 7s 3d to Bs, yearlings 7Jd to B£d, cut or slippy Calfskins.—Firsts 9gd to 9fd. seconds 9j?d to 9|d, cut or slippy od to B§d. dry Is 6d each. Bones.—£s per ton. Horsehair.—ls odjd per lh.
