Mr ii-,:;•••> ouiimel has been appointed Home Secretary in plate oi Sir John Simon, who has resigned.

Mr R. Aitchison, Whangamomona, has been .passed as medically tit for the infantry section of the Reinforcements.

Mr W. Scott has been elected the employers' representative on the Arbitration Board, in place of Mr E. F. Dnthie, resigned. Mr Scott formerly occupied the same position in the Department of Labour.

Private Norman Steele, who was reported missing and probably killed on August 7. has written to his mother at Napier stating that he is a prisoner of war at Constantinople. The Press Association states that the letter was dated August 8.

i The partnership between Mr Frederick William Webster and Mr Frank Edward Dobson, who for some time have successfully carried on business as auctioneers, under the style of Webster, Dobson and Co., with headquarters at Stratford, has been dissolved by mutual consent as from December 31st, 1915.

The death occurred in Christclrurch of Mrs John Harper, senr., at the age of 89. The deceased, who was one (of the band of pioneers who arrived in the ship Randolph in 1852, had resided in Ferry road for over sixty years. She is survived by Mr Harper, i who is just on 90 years of age. There are about' 180 children, grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. It is with regret we (Opunake Times) announce the death of Mr Henry Christopher Rawcliffe, at the age of 50 years. Deceased was absent from the last Council meeting on account of sickness, but very few considered the call was, so close. Deceased, who came from the South Island some years ago to the Skeet Road, quickly set about by his practical energy and knowledge in establishing a fine farm. Deceased was a good type of a country representative on local bodies, and his presence will be missed from the Egmont Council Chambers as a representative of the Geo Riding. The funeral took place on Wednesday.
