J WAR PENSIONS. | Pkr Pkebs Association. ' Wellington, January 12. I AL its lust meeting the War Pensions Board grafted to members, 10 pensions and 22 allowances, three applications being declined, and five adjourned; to dependants, 29 pensions jand one allowance, four being declined and one adjourned. Total, 39 pensions and 23 allowances granted, seven applications declined, and 6 adjourned. XTp to date 444 pensions, representing an annual value of £20.277, have been granted. Of these 63 were granted to soldiers, 93 to wives (including children), and 288 to other defendants. The, average pensions are as follows : Soldiers £56, wives (including ants £29. Eighty-eight allowances have been granted to date, representing £2193 15s. PUKEROA CONVALESCENT HOME Rotorua, January 12. ■ The Pukeroa hospital'for convalescent .soldiers was opened this aftrnoon by Hon. G. W. Russei:. Two thousand people were present. It was announced that the local Maoris had presented £IOO for the purchase of a. piano and roller-top desks for the hospital. Addresses were given by Hons. A. L. Herdman, W. Hi. Hemes, Dr. Pomare, Sir Jas. Carroll, and Mr W. Hill (president officer), and several Maori chiefs. . Mr Russell said that the following gifts had been made to the institution: Wairarapa £IOOQ, Hawke's Bay £IOOO, Wanganui £750, Salvation Army £SOO. Gisborne £250, Timaru £IOO, and Invercargill £250. He understood that the Rotorua people had raised £IOOO for sick and wounded soldiers, and he would like to know where it was, so that he might get some of it for the Pukeroa hospital. He also announced that Mr Clark, of Eskdale, had given a motar-car; Mr GillieSj of Roturoa, a billiard table, and the ladies o fthe Auckland, Wellington, and Blenheim Patriotic Associations had contributed towards the equipment.
