The death is announced from Melbourne of the Hon. Mr T. R. Maxliam, member of the legislative Assembly for Paramhtta.
' Amongst the men who will go into camp next week will be Mr Charles Fred. Bassett father of Corporal Cyril Bassett, of Auckland, who gameu the Victoria Cross for technical services performed with the utmost skill and daring at Gallipoli. Mr Bissett is 50 years of age, and a printer by trade. He is joining the infantry.
A very pretty wedding took place at the Presbyterian Church yesterday afternoon, when Miss Emily Christie, daughter of Mr L. W. Christie, was married to Mr W. M.. Jones, son of Mr Griff Jones (Midhirst). The marriage ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. L. Robinson, 8.A., of Oamaru. Miss Jones and Miss Paul (Inglewood) were the ,bridesmaids, while Mr W. 0. Jones acted a-s best man. The bride was given away by her father, and after the wedding breakfast, the happy couple left for the north by motor car.
