STRATFORD-KAPONCA-ROWAN MAIL SERVICE.
In consequence of complaints concerning the altered service the President of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce wrote to the 'Chief Postmaster, New Plymouth, seeking the reasons for the alteration, and has received tlie following reply:—l have received no complaints re the StratfordKaponga mail service. Tenders were called and two were received. The lower was accepted, and it was considerably lower than the other, but even so the service is not a paying one. Before tenders were called, the former contractor was asked to continue his service for another year, but after a" good deal of delay in replying, j,e refused. There are really only two offices affected—Cardiff and Rowan.Mahoe is being closed. Kaponga is served otherwise. Lo.'garth is iar better off as it was nearly being closed for want of someone willing to carry the mail. 1 had great difficulty in getting any one to carry it, and then had to pay a price greater than the revenue received. 1 consider tho service should he a great advantage, as the settlers are getting the mails the first thing in the morning, which is what all places are anxious for.
