STRATFORD HOSPITAL BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Stratford Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held this morning when there were present: Messrs .1. McAllis-

ter (chairman), C. I). Sole, R. McK Morison, A. Meredith, Christoff, 1 !, J. Smith and E. Walter.

The Inspector-General (Mr T. H A. Valentine) wrote For.voiding memorandum prepared by Dr. Herbert, Government Balneologist, with regard to cases that are specially suitable for treatment at Rotorua Sanatorium. Mr Valiutine stated that lie would ho pleased to receive the name of any military patients in the Stratford Hospital who would benefit by treatment at Rotorua or Hanmer Springs.—lt was decided to forward the name of Private (ledge to the DepartmentThe Minister of Public Health (Hon. G. W. Russell) in a circular letter stated that he would lie pleased it the Board could kindly allow medical boards the use of a room or rooms at the Stratford Hospital for the purpose of examining into the circumstances of sick and wounded soldiers.—lt was decided to write to the Patriotic Committee and ascertain if they have a suitable room for the purpose. The Minister of Public Health wrote stating that a large number of sick and Grounded soldiers would require treatment i iS out-patients and would be grateful if the Board would make arrangements for the treatment of such, —lt’was decided that the secretary draft a reply after'corresponding with the members of the honorary staff. The Inspector-General (Mr T. H. A. Valiutine), wrote asking if the Board would agree to a uniform charge being • made to the Government of 5s per day per man for all soldiers when in host p'ital. The writer pointed out that this | would produce a greater revenue than 1 if it was a charge made to a civilian, jas but a small proportion of civilian .fees are paid, whereas in this case the full- fee will be paid by the Govern- ’ meut.—The fee of 5s was agreed to. | The Medical Superintendent (Dr. Steven) reported that during the ! month sixteen patients were admitted to the hospital, fourteen discharged, (and four died. Two operations were 1 performed under anaesthetics. There ‘ were six patients in isolations, of whom four Had diphtheria, but they were all mild cases. There is at piesent one case in the isolation "aid. ! Private Gedge, at present an in-pati- ' ent. is in my opinion a suitable case f for. treatment at Rotorua Sanatorium, j —Adopted. The Sanitary Inspector (Mr A. Gray) reported that six cases of diphtheria were notified, five in Stratford County and one in Stratford Borough, all of • which were removed to hospital, and , the respective premises disinfected. As • requested by the Borough Council, an old shed was inspected but no nuisance was found to exist. —Adopted. R. Peacock, wardsman at the Hospital, forwarded his resignation, which was accepted. Tenders were accepted as follows: Grocery, Masters, Ltd.; bread, Central j Co-op.'; milk, Mr Richardson; meat, •Mr T. D. Colson.
