LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The Himitangi arrived at Wellington early this morning after a five days' voyage from the Chathams, states the Press Association. Enquiries show that the vessel's propellor was struck by an unknown rock after leaving Manakau, three blades being stripped. The vessel made the trip from Whangaroa with the remaining blade and the sails, averaging four knots. Repairs are now being carried out.
At the Auckland Police Court (state;-, the Press Association) a soldier named Alfred George Clegg, aged 25, pleaded guilty to numerous charges of thefts from unoccupied houses and from shil-ling-slot gas metres respecting which about ono hundred complaints were made to the police. Accused was m Auckland when the latter thefts were committed and they ceased when he left for Tauherenikau Ca'mp, but when he returned to Auckland on leave fmther similar thefts were reported. Clegg admitted all the charges, and also stated that book which was m his possession was stolen from the coat of a man who was working near the military camp at Tauherenikau. He was sentenced to fourteen days' hard labor for the theft of the bank book and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence on the nine other charges.
