GENERAL SMUT'S NEW FORCE. SMITH-DORRIEN'S CONGRATULATIONS. [United Prjbss Association.] (Received 8.15'a.m.) Johannesburg, January i". There was a great review of the new force raised for a special purpose by General Smuts, who accompanied the force under the supreme command of General Smith-Borrien, who, congratulating the troops, said;; "You are going to fight the hordes of barbarians scientifically trained by German officers, but we are thoroughly versed in that sort of work, and we know what to do. It is impossible for me t»> say whether the campaign will be long or shoi-t, but we know we will cany it through successfull v."
